About the role

Lee’s Marketplace Bakery Clerks assist in the total operation of the Bakery Department. Responsibilities include packaging, labeling, displaying, and verifying the quality of baked goods while engaging with guests in person, over the phone, or through digital communication tools. This position works in a fast-paced environment while maintaining Lee’s Marketplace's high standard of personal, exemplary customer service. Clerks are expected to learn and maintain knowledge of Lee’s wide variety of bakery options and other specialty food products to create a great engagement and shopping experience for each guest.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the production, development, preparation, and maintenance of Bakery items in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
• Display and restock Bakery products, ensuring shelves and cases are filled, fresh, rotated, faced, and cleaned.
• Maintain accurate food inventories.
• Educate customers about Lee’s Marketplace bakery products and services.
• Maintain training and certification by attending in-person trainings and utilizing digital training platforms.
• Process and complete orders through digital and in-person order systems.
• Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries and promote a high level of morale within the department and store.
• Prepare and process guest orders promptly and finalize purchases in a friendly manner.
• Solve problems effectively, exemplifying the “Lee’s Way” by doing what’s best for guests, team members, and the company.
• Assist customers with the use of Lee’s Marketplace website.
• Stock shelves and maintain displays according to store standards.
• Ensure product freshness by rotating stock and checking expiration dates.
• Assist in unloading deliveries and organizing stock rooms as needed.
• Package and label products using a computer program.
• Maintain proper freshness, pricing, code dating, tare, and merchandising of products in compliance with company policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
• Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
• Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Contribute to cleaning responsibilities in the department as directed by management.
• Operate cash registers and handle transactions accurately, if applicable.
• Follow store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.
• Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions.
• Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
• Assist other departments as needed.
• Work with the team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
• Attend departmental, store, and company meetings as required.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, programs, and directives.
• Promote a harassment-free environment and report any potential harmful situations to management.

Requirements

• 18 years or older.
• Food Handler's Permit required (can be obtained after hire).
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to work varied hours according to store needs.
• Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
• Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
• Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Ability to access and navigate all areas of the store.
• Occasional use of step stools or ladders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Previous experience in retail or guest service (preferred).
• Previous specialty cheese experience (preferred).
• Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills for handling cash transactions.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate cooking machinery.
