Early Learners (Pre-k) Assistant Teacher
About the role
The Early Learners program serves 3- and 4-year-old children. The Assistant Teacher reports to the Early Learners Director (Kelly Neer) and assists the Lead Teacher.
Responsibilities
- Aid in developing and presenting learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Assist in coordinating instructional efforts under the teacher's direction.
- Instruct and assist children, individually or in small groups, to help them master assignments and reinforce concepts.
- Implement positive methods of discipline that encourage self-control, self-direction, self-esteem, and cooperation.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, playgrounds, the gymnasium, or on field trips.
- Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Instruct and monitor students on the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Use instructional materials and equipment effectively.
- Use technology as an instructional tool in the classroom.
- Escort children to and from various locations.
- Be aware of and assist with students' medical and/or physical needs as directed.
- Attend required activities and training to improve ability to perform job duties.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
An Associate Degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development, along with a valid classroom CDA credential, is preferred but not required. The district will assist the right candidate in obtaining the credentials over the course of a school year.
Qualifications
Experience with children in a preschool setting is preferred, while a love and understanding of young children are required. Candidates should be energetic, positive, and able to communicate effectively with both young children and adults.
