About the Role
Teach English to ESL students in a supportive environment serving adults who have never attended school, are preparing for their GED exams, come from low-income or migrant communities, or are in need of the classes provided. Instruction occurs in group classes and through individual tutoring, primarily staffed by volunteers.
Program Impact
In our 6th year (2021), we served 77 students through the following offerings:
- Reading/Writing, English, and Computer Basics classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the late afternoon.
- Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday English classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., started in June.
- Monday and Wednesday evening English classes at the New Horizons location from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., begun in August.
- Special classes in Exercise, Health & Wellness taught by UF/IFAS FNP staff and volunteers.
