Qualifications

  • Current licenses as a registered professional nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • Current certification in Infant, Child, and Adult BLS.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree based upon a four-year curriculum in an accredited college.
  • Experience with child and adolescent health care and health assessment.
  • Experience with Emergency Management.
  • Ability to use clinic/medical equipment; basic pharmacology knowledge.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

General Work Expectations

  • Attends to students who are injured or who become ill while at school, administers first-aid and other emergency nursing treatment, and arranges for medical attention where the circumstances indicate.
  • Administers medication according to physician or licensed health care provider’s orders.
  • Assists in selecting first-aid supplies to be kept at the school and secures and carries out medically approved written instructions for care of sick or injured students.
  • Confers with students and parents regarding health problems when requested.
  • Assists the Pittsburgh Public certified school nurse with a variety of screening activities to ascertain student health appraisal.
  • Excludes and readmits students in accordance with existing school health regulations and policies.
  • Assists with in-service training activities by giving instructions to students and school personnel in such subjects as nutrition, rest and relaxation, communicable diseases, home health care, and CPR. Informs and educates such information to parents.
  • Maintains accurate and clear health records of school children in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Assists teachers and health authorities when special community health programs are carried out.
  • Collaborates with the school athletic director to comply with PIAA pre-participation physical examinations and clearances as well as parent recertification for additional sport seasons.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Wellness Coordinator

  • Functioning as the school nurse and performing all duties as related to that position including student medications, illnesses, first aid, and managing the health room and all of the school health records.
  • Designing, facilitating and promoting all wellness initiatives facility wide.
  • Must effectively lead and manage all health related programs, chairs wellness committee meetings, and design wellness publications in coordination with the strategic development department.
  • Must evaluate health risk assessments and surveys to establish effective wellness initiatives relevant to Community Day School staff based on annual statistics.
  • Supports the Employee Health department initiatives as needed.

Safety Coordinator

  • Working with both the instructional and non-instructional areas of the school to develop and promote well-planned safety programs for all students, staff and all others involved with the district.
  • Provide the leadership and direction to develop, implement, and oversee a sound school safety program.
  • Organize and direct a school safety committee to develop, review, and assess school safety programs and procedures. Serve as a resource to the safety committee.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of in-servicing of school personnel on various safety topics.
  • Review data from safety inspections and accident reports and ensure implementation of recommendations.
  • Maintain a standardized record keeping system for all accidents with periodic review and follow-up. Submit workers compensation claims as required.
  • Ensure school-wide compliance with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) requirements.
  • Assist building administrators with monthly fire drills.

Emergency Management Coordinator

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and maintenance of a school wide, comprehensive, all hazards emergency management program to prepare for and direct the actions of the school community in the event of an emergency.
  • Conducts assessments, reviews and self-inspections. Analyzes and interprets results, recommends appropriate corrective actions, communicates results and follows-up on issues or concerns until completion.
  • Develops, coordinates, facilitates and maintains crisis management policies and procedures and emergency operations activities ensuring adherence to the emergency management goals of: Protecting life, health, and safety; Securing and protecting facilities, property and equipment from loss; Maintaining essential academic and business services and operations; Providing for restoration of services, functions, and facilities as timely as possible; Continuously assessing the effectiveness of the policies, procedures, activities and organizational structure and provide feedback for continuous improvements.
  • Serves as a contact with federal, state, and local emergency response groups. Develop relationships with local fire, law enforcement, EMS providers and local emergency management groups. Reviews and updates policies, programs, and procedures ensuring inclusion of any new legal requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of changes to laws and regulations that impact the school. Utilizes best practices in emergency management and planning.
  • Reviews and investigates workers compensation incidents, compiling findings and recommendations for corrective actions into summary reports.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates school-wide emergency training. Prepare and deliver appropriate training to all employees of the school community.
  • Assists with the design, development and implementation of: disaster preparedness plans and training programs, emergency operations drills, department level emergency and mitigation plans, and interdepartmental activities. Routinely communicates emergency management preparedness measures to all constituents of the school community.
