About the role
The Teacher Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for creating a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This role supports the lead Teacher in implementing educational activities and guides children who need extra support.
Responsibilities
- Supports the implementation of both long and short-range activities in line with educational plans, curriculum objectives, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Conducts one-on-one activities with small groups of children during instruction and lesson reviews.
- Acts as a guide for children needing extra support to complete tasks.
- Communicates openly and respectfully with families, team members, supervisors, and other center staff.
- Maintains a safe and healthy environment according to licensing guidelines.
- Maintains and meets educational requirements as per NAEYC Accreditation Standards and Criteria.
- Maintains and meets all required licensing requirements for the Department of Children and Families-Office of Licensing.
- Contributes to children's anecdotal records and assesses developmental needs.
- Participates in lesson plan reviews, team meetings, and learning environment communication sessions.
- Attends and participates in professional development, meetings, and conferences.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies, job competencies, and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a child care setting or related field.
- Advanced degree accepted in lieu of experience requirement.
- Talent for fostering children's interest in learning.
- Creative and resourceful, with strong planning and organizational skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, and comprehensive knowledge of classroom activities and teaching methods.
- Genuine interest in children and respect for their individuality.
- The ability to establish positive relationships with families and other professionals.
