About the role
The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for infants ages 6 weeks to 24 months. This role assists with implementing developmentally appropriate activities, supervising children throughout the day, and meeting each child's individual developmental and emotional needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists with implementing developmentally appropriate activities
- Supervises children throughout the day
- Maintains a clean, healthy, and stimulating classroom
- Provides classroom coverage as needed to support the changing needs of the center
- Works collaboratively with staff and families
- Fulfills ECLT tasks throughout the day
- Follows all state licensing and safety regulations
- Participates in ongoing training and professional development
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development
- Demonstrated ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt to the individual needs of infants
- Demonstrated decision and problem solving abilities
- Ability to understand the ECLT routine when it comes to delivering a lesson plan and running the class in the event that the ECLT is absent on a particular day
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families and community resources
- Demonstrated ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children and community
- Demonstrated ability to supervise infants and ensure a safe environment
- Demonstrated ability to respond to events happening at all times in classroom, and outdoor play areas
- Ability to receive oversight and guidance from an onsite Lead Teacher or Director
Qualifications
- This position must be at least 16 years old
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or HiSET preferred
- American Heart Association: Heart Saver CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required to be completed in first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter
- Current on the Montana Early Childhood Project: Practitioner Registry within 15 days of hire required
- Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days and Health and Safety Required Professional Development within 90 days of hire required
- Complete mandatory 16 hour annual training
- Keep current all St. Peter’s Health and State Child Care Licensing required immunizations
