Early Career Livestock Assistant

About the role

Temporary Part-Time Livestock Assistant at ABS Global (a Genus Company). Starting pay $16/hr. Typical schedule 5:30 AM–9:30 AM, 3–5 days per week. Positions may be located at the Dekorra facility in Poynette, WI or the Leeds facility in Rio, WI. Ideal for early‑career applicants seeking livestock handling experience while attending school. Works with the Youth Apprenticeship (YA) Program through Wisconsin Workforce Development and Madison Area Technical College to satisfy 450 hours of work experience; an Early Career Program Manager will assist with YA documentation. This is an ongoing job posting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain bull health and hygiene standards: assist with feeding, bedding, and daily hygiene.
• Assist with grooming, washing, and hoof trimming of bulls.
• Assist with picture taking.
• Assist with manure removal.
• Assist with transporting bulls.
• Monitor bull health for injury or illness and report to the Veterinary department and supervisor/manager.
• Assist Livestock Handlers with semen collection in accordance with quality standards and company safety policies; adhere to all quality control measures for employee and bull health, safety, and hygiene.
• Maintain barn appearance and proper working condition for tours and bull health; assist with equipment maintenance and safe operation.
• Observe and promote all safety rules; assist with lawn mowing and snow removal as needed for image and safety.
• Maintain professional verbal and written communication with coworkers, internal/external customers, and vendors.
• Be flexible with job responsibilities, strive to be an effective team member, and perform non‑routine tasks as needed.
• Develop new skills, assume greater responsibility, learn to handle problem bulls with proper safety techniques, and learn hoof‑care program.
