About the role

WSP is currently searching for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer to join our Earth & Environment Team in either Charlotte, NC or Asheville, NC. This role offers opportunities to work on diverse projects and contribute to the growth of a dynamic organization.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the preparation and coordination of work plans and site investigations.
  • Direct drilling and excavation contractors and oversee drilling and construction activities.
  • Prepare geotechnical data reports, construction field reports, and perform geotechnical calculations and modeling.
  • Maintain communication with clients, contractors, and cross-discipline teams.
  • Assist with report writing, cost estimation, and permit document preparation.
  • Support the creation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Travel to monitor drilling or construction sites and participate in short-term and long-term field assignments.
  • Lead construction quality assurance or special inspections projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams, with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and discipline-specific design software.
  • FE/EIT certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior experience in civil, geotechnical, or mining engineering fields.
  • Internship or co-operative experience in geotechnical, construction materials testing, or laboratory testing.
