About the role

This Opportunity WSP’s Atlanta Natural Resources Team is seeking an Early Career Environmental Scientist to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for a variety of ecological evaluations in support of environmental and engineering consulting projects.

Responsibilities

  • Jurisdictional wetland delineation
  • Environmental oversight during construction to ensure compliance with permit conditions
  • Threatened and endangered species and preferred habitats survey methodologies
  • Assessment of potential impacts to wetlands and/or protected species
  • Entrainment sampling at power generation facilities in support of CWA 316(b) compliance
  • Support for preparation of applications for Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permits
  • Wetland and stream mitigation monitoring
  • Local and/or national travel (up to 65% of the time) with possible short-term or long-term assignments at project sites

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Fisheries, or related field
  • 0 to 1 year of relevant post education experience
  • Familiarity with Georgia/Southeastern U.S. wetland ecology, wildlife ecology, and/or botany
  • Fluency in regulatory agency guidelines in the state of Georgia (GA EPD, GA DNR, USACE, USFWS)
  • GIS experience
  • Capable of producing clear and concise written technical documents
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Comfortable with managing a workflow that includes field work and completion of reporting tasks for multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Capable of working independently and effectively with a team, both office and field settings (dense vegetation, in-stream wading, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, reliable and dedicated individual

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operation of 4x4 vehicles and comfortable working from boats
