Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of the treatment area, including checking and maintaining stock and supplies.
- Prepares patients for exams, undresses them, positions them for comfort, and adheres to appropriate monitoring devices.
- Performs various tasks such as vital signs, I&O's, EKGs, bladder scans, blood glucose tests, and phlebotomy.
- Works collaboratively with the RN and providers in the ED, participating in specific roles like placing patients on monitors, setting up fluid warmers, and using Durable Medical Equipment.
- Participates in hourly rounding and maintains regular communications with patients and their families.
- Maintains ongoing communications with team members regarding patient status and proactively manages care.
- Documents task completion and patient care interactions.
- Transports patients to testing and in-patient units.
- Completes mandatory continuing education.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current EMT certified, Medical Assistant Certified, Nursing student, or 1 year prior experience in the Emergency Department.
- CPR certification required.
- Desired: Phlebotomy, EKG Training, Direct Patient Care Skills.
Qualifications
- One year of experience in the Emergency Department.
Skills
- Manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity.
- Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
