E/I Technician

About the role

The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician supports the manufacturing of Pulp and Paper by providing quality maintenance duties to ensure the mill’s equipment reliability and availability. This role operates in a 24/7 continuous manufacturing environment, requiring compliance with all safety regulations and practices. The E&I Technician will utilize skills and knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and rigging to achieve equipment runnability in a team-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace electrical, electronic, and instrumentation devices.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems.
• Initiate and complete work orders and document all critical or pertinent information on a routine basis.
• Troubleshoot and repair mill-wide electrical power systems, working with AC and DC voltages ranging from 12, 24, and 500 VDC to 120/240, 480, 2300, 4,160, and 13,800 AC.
• Install and maintain electrical distribution equipment and components, including electrical conductors, conduit, cable trays, power panels, and motor control centers.
• Maintain automated industrial machinery, including motors, solenoids, servos, pumps, drives, relays, 3-phase power, communication devices, industrial/electronic controls, and power transmission systems.
• Install and set up both AC and DC drives.
• Install and troubleshoot basic 3-phase motor control circuits.
• Work with various types of flow, pressure, level, and temperature sensors and transmitters.
• Troubleshoot control valves, proximity switches, flow switches, pressure switches, and limit switches.
• Apply knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Perform PLC troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings.
• Use computer systems, including Microsoft Office and department-specific software.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of Instrumentation and Electrical experience in a production maintenance environment or equivalent military experience.
• Journeyman certification or proof of completion of a related college or apprenticeship program preferred.
• Strong electrical background with experience in 480-volt 3-phase power distribution and controls.
• Basic understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Ability to read and understand electrical and instrumentation drawings and PLC ladder logic.
• Experience with variable frequency drives and smart field instruments (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, level, and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, valve actuators, and PID controllers).
• Capable of meeting physical requirements, including working weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and overtime as needed; exposure to heat, noise, and both indoor and outdoor environments.

Skills

• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with extensive troubleshooting experience.
• Computer literacy, including MS Office and ability to learn new software.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

Hourly rates range from $40.28 to $45.67 (shift-based). Employees commonly earn more than $100,000 annually.

Schedule

Rotating shift schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
