Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. MAP’s fashion initiative, Thread & Promise, uses design and apparel to raise awareness and generate support for our programs. Every piece carries a story of mentorship, resilience, and hope.

About the role

We are seeking a Volunteer E-Commerce Manager to lead the digital storefront and online presence for Thread & Promise. This role will involve setting up, managing, and optimizing our e-commerce platform, ensuring customers enjoy a seamless shopping experience while supporting MAP’s mission. The ideal candidate has a blend of technical and creative skills, with experience in online retail and a passion for purpose-driven fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and manage the Thread & Promise online store (Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce, or similar)
  • Upload and maintain product listings with accurate descriptions, images, and pricing
  • Oversee order processing, fulfillment coordination, and customer inquiries
  • Monitor inventory and collaborate with design/production teams on availability
  • Optimize site navigation, design, and checkout flow for usability and conversions
  • Track e-commerce analytics and generate sales reports
  • Support digital marketing campaigns, promotions, and product launches
  • Ensure branding and storytelling are consistent across the platform

Requirements

  • Proven experience in e-commerce management or online retail operations
  • Familiarity with platforms like Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce, or similar
  • Strong understanding of digital merchandising, product listings, and checkout flows
  • Ability to analyze sales and traffic data to inform improvements
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Passion for mission-driven work and socially conscious fashion
  • 5-10 hours per week

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in nonprofit or social enterprise e-commerce
  • Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and e-commerce marketing strategies
  • Familiarity with email marketing and CRM tools
  • Basic design skills for product imagery and graphics (Canva, Photoshop, or similar)
