About the role
We are looking for an E-Coat Process Engineer to join our team based in our Coatings Research Center off Telegraph Rd. in Southfield, MI. You will work in a high-pressure/demanding environment with the goal of meeting very demanding customer expectations in short timelines. This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your varied skills, including maintaining, contributing to, and leading EHS and 6S standards and continuous improvement as well as showcasing your knowledge of E-coat application and systems.
Responsibilities
- Providing technical service and conduct customer support activities for electrocoat products while being able to work independently.
- Working to make and test electrocoat samples to internal and customer specifications. Using your skills to evaluate material performance to ensure they meet customer requirements both in a lab and in a production facility.
- Travelling to multiple customer sites to support and decide on adjustments when resolving customer issues. Working in partnership with various departments and externally with customers.
- Utilizing the knowledge you have in electrocoat product and process to provide customer support in the areas of electrocoat system design, process optimization, technology conversion, technology launch, and new system launch including responsibility to lead and manage launches.
- Developing methods to reproduce customer problems, design experiments to correct the problem, work with manufacturing to implement changes, and reporting to the customer root cause and corrective actions.
- Assisting internal manufacturing and customer facilities with performance evaluation and provide technical direction when needed.
Requirements
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or related field or equivalent blend of knowledge and experience in E-coat operation and running systems; or a high school diploma and at least 7 years of E-coat industry experience, including prior customer line experience.
- Have at least 5-7 years of experience in E-coat chemistry or process, particularly with layout parameters and system design.
- Have excellent communication skills and have prior experience with direct customer interaction. (Automotive industry highly preferred.)
- Strong mechanical aptitude required.
- Possess proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- SAP experience highly preferred.
- Prior experience with European customers a plus.
- Bilingual a plus. (German or Spanish)
- Possess basic equipment repair skills.

- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
