E&C Segment Applied AI Lead
Legence (Nasdaq: LGN) is a leading provider of engineering, consulting, installation, and maintenance services for mission-critical systems in buildings. The company specializes in designing, fabricating, and installing complex HVAC, process piping, and other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems—enhancing energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in new and existing facilities. Legence also delivers long-term performance through strategic upgrades and holistic solutions. Serving some of the world’s most technically demanding sectors, Legence counts over 60% of the Nasdaq-100 Index among its clients.
About the role
The E&C Segment Applied AI Lead implements AI solutions for the Engineering & Consulting business — on live projects, in estimating and design, and across the systems that run project delivery. Within the strategy and governance set by leadership, this role builds and deploys working solutions for real project problems, trains project teams to use them, and drives adoption on live work. It is for someone who can prototype against project data and then sit with estimators, PMs, and field leaders until the tool sticks. It implements; it does not set strategy.
Location: United States (Remote, near Legence office preferred). Travel: Yes, 10%.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy AI solutions for real project problems across the lifecycle — preconstruction and estimating, design, scheduling, procurement, field execution, QA/QC, and closeout (e.g., RFI and submittal handling, spec and drawing analysis, estimate support).
- Train and enable project teams — PMs, estimators, engineers, field leaders — with hands-on sessions, job-specific guidance, and support that fits how they actually work.
- Drive adoption on live projects: run pilots, sit with teams, remove friction, and grow self-service use.
- Deploy, configure, and support the agentic AI tools the company has selected for E&C users — Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Cowork, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code — and use them directly to build solutions, integrating with the E&C technology stack where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Corporate and I&M Applied AI Leads as peers — reuse and share solutions, templates, and patterns so work is not duplicated across segments.
- Apply the governance and data-handling standards leadership sets, and flag project-specific risks and gaps back to leadership.
- Quantify and report impact in segment terms: bid hours saved, RFI and submittal turnaround, estimate accuracy, rework avoided.
Requirements
- 7+ years across engineering/construction technology, software/data, or technical implementation, with hands-on LLM experience in a business setting.
- Working knowledge of the E&C project lifecycle and the systems that support it.
- Ability to build and deploy solutions (Python, TypeScript, or low-code; document/RAG pipelines) and to train non-technical project teams to use them.
- Hands-on fluency with agentic AI tools — building and automating with Claude Code, and enabling users with Claude Cowork and Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork.
- Credible and comfortable with project teams in the office and in the field.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with AEC / ConTech tooling (BIM and VDC, estimating, project controls, Procore or comparable).
- Experience with mission-critical mechanical-electrical project delivery (data centers, life sciences, healthcare, semiconductor).
- Experience applying governance and data-handling standards in practice.
Pay
Base salary: $145,000–$180,000 per year. Actual compensation will be based on skills, experience, and work location, and may vary from the posted range.
