About the role
Engage students actively in the learning process by planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to the needs of individual learners with dyslexia.
Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in ARD/IEP committee meetings and provide goals and objectives for students needing dyslexia programming services.
- Assist classroom teachers by identifying and providing appropriate reading interventions for students who are not reading on grade level.
- Provide resources and training to school staff and parents regarding dyslexia instruction and identification in the classroom.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each student receiving Dyslexia programming services.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to accommodate curricula as needed for dyslexia students according to guidelines established in the Texas Dyslexia Handbook.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Serve as a liaison by maintaining a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
Requirements
- Knowledgeable about federal and state laws and mandates regarding dyslexia student identification, placement, and instruction.
- Knowledgeable about district procedures regarding evaluation and identification of dyslexia.
- Ability to work independently to serve multiple campuses as assigned.
- Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Ability to work with various kinds of technology.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or in a directly related field.
- Valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
- Special Education certification required.
- Dyslexia Practitioner or Therapist certification preferred.
- 3+ years of experience working with/teaching children with learning differences.
Skills
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in educational technology tools.
Benefits
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Pay
Minimum Salary: $67,780.00
Median Salary: $74,576.00
