About the role

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in ongoing NASA research projects focused on understanding the dynamics, structure, and chemistry of planetary atmospheres.
  • Contribute to current investigations such as studies of the dynamics and internal heat flow of Uranus and Neptune; atmospheric superrotation and circulation of Saturn's moon Titan; Saturn ring seismology to reveal properties of Saturn's interior; and the thermal structure and chemistry of exoplanetary atmospheres.
  • Potential new projects include a study of atmospheric evolution in Super Earths.

Requirements

  • A completed Doctoral degree by the start date of the appointment.
  • Research proposal that aligns with the research interests of the selected advisor.
  • Three letters of recommendation addressing the candidate's research potential and fit with the NPP.
  • Official doctoral transcripts.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in planetary science or related field.
  • Experience in relevant research areas as described in the research proposal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Skills

  • Proficiency in scientific writing and presentation.
  • Knowledge of planetary atmosphere dynamics and chemistry.
  • Experience with data analysis and modeling.

Pay
