Position Overview: The DWI Compliance Officer for the Village of Los Lunas provides oversight of misdemeanor DWI, alcohol/substance-involved domestic violence, and other applicable misdemeanor cases. This role involves attending court hearings, preparing status reports and probation violation documentation, and collaborating with courts, enforcement agencies, treatment providers, and community partners to support clients in fulfilling court-ordered mandates and reducing recidivism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of misdemeanor DWI, alcohol/substance-involved domestic violence, and other applicable misdemeanor cases, adhering to program guidelines.
  • Attend court hearings to represent the program and provide relevant information to the court.
  • Prepare accurate status reports and probation violation documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with the courts, enforcement agencies, treatment providers, and community partners to support clients in fulfilling court-ordered mandates.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to monitor progress and address any challenges or needs.
  • Offer guidance and support to clients in understanding and complying with court requirements.
  • Create individualized plans for successful probation completion for clients.
  • Provide resources, referrals, and assistance to clients when their needs extend beyond the program's scope.
  • Strive to reduce recidivism by offering or referring to services that address underlying issues and support rehabilitation.
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • Foster a supportive and non-judgmental environment to encourage clients' success.
  • Collaborate with the DWI Compliance Program team to ensure cohesive and effective operations.
  • Contribute insights and suggestions to enhance the program's impact and effectiveness.
  • Participate in professional development and training to stay informed about best practices.
  • Absorb compliance of the Misdemeanor Compliance Program’s State Accreditation.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree. Relevant education may substitute for experience and relevant experience may substitute for education at a rate of 30 semester hours equating to one year of full-time work experience.
  • Ability to pass a rigid background check including criminal history and driving history.
  • Two years of experience in the judiciary, in a criminal justice position or in counseling.
  • Knowledge of approved principles and practices of law enforcement to include investigative techniques and practices, applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and practices.
  • Understanding of the court system and legal processes related to misdemeanor cases.
  • Knowledge of substance misuse issues, rehabilitation, and support services.
  • Effective communication skills for interactions with clients, courts, agencies, and treatment providers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and other agencies.
  • Compassion, empathy, and patience in working with individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address client's diverse needs.
  • Commitment to supporting clients through their probation with a focus on successful completion.
  • Ability to work independently; to analyze and evaluate investigative materials; to communicate and interview effectively both orally and in writing; to prioritize workload; to work in a stressful environment; operate a computer, be persuasive, assertive, and empathetic to people from various populations; and maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate in a second language is desirable but not required.
  • Capacity to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • Resilience and adaptability to handle complex and evolving situations.
