About the practice
Roanoke Animal Hospital has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association longer than any other veterinary hospital in Virginia, continuously meeting AAHA standards since 1950. Founded in 1947 by Dr. Alvin Rice, the practice originally treated farm animals, horses, and small animal pets. Dr. Mark Finkler joined in 1982 and later purchased the practice; both Dr. Rice and Dr. Finkler served as President of the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and the Roanoke Valley Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Thomas Blaszak joined in 2011, gained certifications in PennHip X-rays, TTA2 surgery, Advanced Dentistry, Echocardiogram, Ultrasound, and laser procedures, and became the third owner in July 2020. Under his ownership, the hospital received the Platinum award for "Best Veterinarian Services" in the 2021 edition of "The Roanoker" magazine and was voted a 2021 "Best of Virginia" winner in "Virginia Living" magazine.

Qualifications
Must be an active Veterinary Student from an AVMA Accredited Institution.
