Heartland Pet Hospital is a family-focused general practice that provides exceptional care to pets and their people. We believe animals play an essential role in family life and deserve the utmost levels of our attention. Our team—led by a devoted husband and wife duo—delivers high-quality medical and preventative care to companion animals in Bellevue, Nebraska, and surrounding communities. Every team member, from our receptionist to techs, provides professional and compassionate service to our new and longstanding clients.

Heartland Pet Hospital has been a staple in the community for over twenty-five years and has long-standing relationships with customers and their children. From preventative to emergency care, we are determined to get to a solution without taking shortcuts. Our practice offers physical exams along with vaccines for dogs and cats. Our extensive in-house lab services allow us to perform high-quality diagnostic testing with electrocardiogram and digital radiology technology. We provide surgeries including but not limited to dental cleanings, tumor and mass removal, spaying and neutering, orthopedic procedures, declawing, and more. Our team understands that pet health goes beyond physical performance, therefore we provide behavioral and nutritional counseling.

About the Role

We’re looking for 1st through 4th year veterinary students who are compassionate, team players, and strong communicators. This externship is ideal for students looking to enhance their education through real-world experiences.

Heartland Pet Hospital is located in the center of Bellevue, an urban suburb of Omaha, Nebraska. Bellevue is Nebraska’s oldest continual settlement since the Lewis and Clark Expedition and is known for its beautiful views, including the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center and Willow Lakes Golf Course. The area offers urban and historic shopping districts, and downtown Omaha is just 10 minutes away, featuring attractions like the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, dining, live music, and NCAA and Olympic sport viewing opportunities.
