DVM Program Lab Support Specialist

About the role

To support the College of Veterinary Medicine curriculum which is designed using the Multidiscipline Laboratory (MDL) concept where a central staff provides support and technical assistance for student labs.

Responsibilities

• Primary coordination and operational support of the instructional diagnostic laboratories including but not limited to bacteriology, clinical pathology, and parasitology.
• Secondary support for veterinary anatomy labs and other instructional laboratories within the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year veterinary curriculum.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Experience with microscope use and maintenance, veterinary anatomy, general laboratory operations, procedures, and safety practices.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the following: supporting instructional or academic laboratory environments; preparing and maintaining laboratory specimens, cadavers, and dissection materials; using and maintaining microscopes and other laboratory instrumentation; laboratory inventory management, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques, biosafety practices, and proper handling and disposal of biological materials.
• Coursework or training in veterinary anatomy, parasitology, bacteriology, and laboratory practices associated with veterinary medical education.
