About the role

DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital offers Veterinary Externships to fourth-year veterinary students enrolled in an accredited college of veterinary medicine. These externships provide hands-on learning opportunities in a state-of-the-art, non-profit, AAHA-accredited, and VECCS Level 1-certified teaching hospital.

Responsibilities

• Observe a fast-paced specialty hospital, particularly in the ER and ICU.
• Learn from staff doctors at a non-profit, AAHA-accredited, and VECCS Level 1-certified teaching hospital.
• Gain exposure to a variety of cases and procedures in a unique, collaborative environment.

Requirements

• Fourth-year veterinary students enrolled in an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Able/willing to sign a liability waiver.
• Understand this is an observational externship and not a preceptorship.

Schedule

Externships last two weeks and start every other Monday. Students work on the floor four days a week, 10-12 hours daily.

Rotations are available most of the year, excluding June and the end of December. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
