Dual Credit Part-Time Lecturer - Non-Union

About the Role

Harold Washington College is seeking a part-time Dual Credit Faculty to teach History, Criminal Justice, Business, and English to high school students at a Chicago Public High School. This position will teach Monday-Friday on-site at the high school, not at Harold Washington College.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Harold Washington College is a member of the Caring Campus network, which focuses on implementing behavioral commitments to enhance student engagement and connection.

Responsibilities

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem-solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of course outcomes.
• Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals while fostering a safe environment that respects diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
• Contribute to and provide leadership in students’ academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in the discipline corresponding to the course being taught.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students.
• Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
• Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System is preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $800.00 - $943.00 per contact hour, in accordance with City Colleges' approved salary scale.
