DSHS SCC Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 4

Position located at the Pierce County - Secure Community Transition Facility (PC-SCTF) on McNeil Island, WA. SCC employees receive an additional $10 per day premium pay, a free ORCA card for transportation, and ferry transportation to McNeil Island. Evening and night shifts include a shift differential. On-site work at least three days a week may qualify for an additional 5% premium pay.

About the role

Supervise and support staff in the Recreation Center, ensuring treatment plans are followed and resident needs are met. Oversee documentation, employee evaluations, and prosocial engagement activities. Act as a liaison between residents and treatment teams, and lead emergency response efforts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff understand and apply treatment plans for individual residents in the Recreation Center.
  • Review and assess the quality of staff documentation on residents.
  • Complete employee evaluations and discuss performance with each team member.
  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of resident prosocial engagement activities.
  • Ensure residents' physical needs are met per SCC policy and procedure.
  • Provide information to residents' treatment teams regarding appropriateness and rule compliance in the Recreation Center.
  • Instruct and encourage residents on policies, procedures, and protocols within the Recreation Department.
  • Assist in coordinating religious activities with the Religious Coordinator.
  • Interact frequently with residents and document interactions/behaviors for treatment teams.
  • Assist residents with problem-solving individually and in small groups.
  • Participate in area community meetings and assist with answering resident questions post-meeting.
  • Report immediate risks or issues to the On-Site Supervisor and collaborate on resolutions.
  • Support Recreation Center Staff in planning and coordinating prosocial activities.
  • May act as Admin On-site, SCC Security Lead, or Residential Lead during assigned shifts.
  • Lead SCC Quick Response and Emergency Response Teams in emergent situations.
  • Apply knowledge of policies and procedures for competency restoration and trauma-informed therapeutic and forensic mental health treatment programs.

Requirements

  • Must ride a ferry and bus to and from the worksite.
  • Must be able to work mandatory overtime.
  • Must pass and perform physical and knowledge requirements of CPR, first responder-level first aid, Control/Defensive Tactics, and Physical Intervention Training within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to effectively assist in the restraint of acting-out residents.
  • May be required to work alone while stationed on a living unit or monitoring resident activities.
  • May be required to work in areas or units other than the principal assignment location.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience providing direct care in a residential or inpatient behavioral health setting, OR
  • One year of experience as a supervisor/lead worker and two years of experience providing direct care in a residential or inpatient behavioral health setting.
  • Equivalent education/experience may be considered.
