Drum Mechanic Night Shift

About the role

National Beef Leathers in St. Joseph, Missouri is seeking a Drum Mechanic for a night shift schedule (5:45 PM – 6:00 AM) on a 3½‑day work week. This is a safety‑sensitive, on‑site position.

Pay

• Starting pay: $22.60 per hour
• Perfect attendance bonus: $2.65 per hour
• Night shift differential: $1.00 per hour
• Skill‑based tiering program: up to $4.00 per hour

Schedule

Night shift, 5:45 PM – 6:00 AM, 3½ days per week. Ability to work various shifts and “on‑call” as needed.

Responsibilities

• Inspects drums to ensure they are working properly and safely
• Identifies mechanical problems and performs mechanical repairs
• Removes unsafe equipment from the facility operating area and notifies supervisor
• Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using welding and/or plumbing techniques and equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, etc.
• Tests drums to ensure repairs are completed correctly
• Schedules and performs routine and preventive maintenance for drums
• Reviews plans, process procedures, drawings, and quality manuals to understand the scope, requirements, and function of products
• Maintains repair log
• Operates radio equipment to communicate accurately and promptly
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Completion of forklift truck training or willingness to complete necessary courses
• Ability to use hand and power tools, ladders, and lift trucks (e.g., snorkel lift/bucket lift)
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Ability to complete mechanical aptitude assessment
• Analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
• Must be able to stand and walk on concrete surfaces and climb stairs for prolonged periods
• Must be able to lift 75 to 100 pounds at a time
• Must comply with all personal protective equipment requirements and with all safe work practices and procedures
• Must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to work various shifts and “on‑call” as needed
• Must be at least 18 years of age
