About the Role
Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Drug GM department. Support the day-to-day operations while embracing the Customer 1st strategy to deliver excellent customer service. Promote trust and respect among associates, communicate company and job-specific information, and collaborate to achieve store goals.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return.
- Supervise and empower associates to meet or exceed performance targets.
- Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout operating hours.
- Train and develop associates on job performance and participate in the performance appraisal process.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
- Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions and offering product suggestions.
- Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Offer product samples and inform customers of Drug GM specials and promotions.
- Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
- Understand the store’s layout and locate products efficiently.
- Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
- Educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions.
- Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
- Implement the period promotional plan for the department and stay current with ads.
- Monitor and control department expenses and maintain awareness of inventory conditions.
- Schedule and update price changes, shelf tags, and promotional signs.
- Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process, including training associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
- Reinforce safety programs, comply with safety procedures, and report unsafe conditions or illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, fraud).
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of needed repairs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Requirements
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
- Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Ability to follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- High school education or equivalent.
- Management experience.
- Drug GM or retail experience.
- Proficiency in a second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
