DRS Group Fitness Specialist
About the role
This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Group Fitness Specialist positions for Recreational Sports at Oregon State University (OSU).
Responsibilities
- Coach, motivate, and lead physical activity sessions by adapting instruction to diverse participant needs and goals.
- Develop and lead safe, effective programming that meets established format standards while evaluating participant feedback for continuous improvement.
- Attend and actively contribute to staff meetings and trainings to strengthen team cohesion and shared goals.
- Assist with department activities as assigned, supporting colleagues and organizational initiatives.
- Assist and encourage the initiation and maintenance of physical activity for participants and OSU community members of varying activity levels, experiences, and identities.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that celebrates diversity and fosters belonging.
- Ensure equitable access to fitness equipment and resources by supporting organization, cleanliness, and appropriate use of shared spaces.
- Wear appropriate and professional fitness apparel and shoes, modeling industry standards and professionalism.
- Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities to expand instructional skills and career readiness.
- Uphold department values and policies, demonstrating accountability and commitment to professional growth.
- Execute emergency procedures and provide First Aid/CPR assistance, applying sound judgment under pressure.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.
- First Aid, CPR/AED for the Healthcare Provider and DRS Bloodborne Pathogens certifications is required before employment begins and will be provided by the department upon hiring.
- This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Benefits
Student employees are paid an hourly wage consistent with the OSU Student Employment Pay Rate Guidelines. The Department of Recreational Sports identifies pay ranges based upon job duties, level of responsibility, and complexity of the work to be performed.
Pay
Anticipated hourly rate: $17.67
Schedule
Period of Employment: One academic year (continuing employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a 30 day probationary period and satisfactory job performance as evaluated by immediate supervisor).
6-8 hours per week. Early morning, late night and weekend hours may be required.
