Job Duties
- Conduct driver license examinations, including automobile, motorcycle, and CDL knowledge, skills, and road tests
- Evaluate applicant performance and determine eligibility
- Verify identity, citizenship, residency, and immigration documents
- Review records and utilize fraud detection tools to ensure authenticity and compliance with federal and state requirements
- Process driver licenses, permits, and identification cards
- Enter and maintain records in motor vehicle databases
- Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of information
- Provide customer service by explaining licensing requirements, testing procedures, driving privileges, restrictions, appeals processes, and agency policies to applicants and the public
- Perform office operations including cash handling, inventory control, equipment troubleshooting, opening/closing procedures, facility readiness, and coordination with support staff and vendors
- Perform other duties as assigned and within the scope of the classification
Requirements / Qualifications
- Experience working with the public in a customer service capacity or working with motor vehicle laws
- Preferred qualifications include experience providing customer service in a public-facing environment; experience handling cash transactions and maintaining accurate records; familiarity with state motor vehicle laws, licensing procedures, or regulatory requirements; experience reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness; proficiency with computer systems and data entry; experience working in a fast-paced office environment; bilingual communication skills; and a demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional when interacting with diverse customers in challenging situations
- A valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
- Completion of agency-provided training, including Driver License Examiner certification, fraud detection training, and defensive driving coursework
- The position requires regular interaction with the public, the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Occasional travel between testing locations may be required
- Candidates must be dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with state and federal licensing requirements
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of customer service principles and practices, as well as familiarity with computer systems and office software
- Strong customer service and verbal and written communication skills to effectively assist applicants and explain licensing requirements
- The ability to communicate professionally with the public, work independently and as part of a team, and conduct road tests safely and objectively
- The ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions
