Summary

The CDL A Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently completing regional deliveries with care, professionalism, and precision, executing same-day pickup and delivery (P&D) operations within a defined geographic area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives semi-tractors/trailers for up to 11 hours after 10 hours off-duty on runs of up to one week or more.
  • Backs trailers to customer docks.
  • Maintains compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe and professional driving behavior.
  • Communicates with customer representatives in a pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner.
  • Communicates and coordinates with dispatchers.
  • Complies with all DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing).
  • Secures cargo and properly arranges and balances it within the vehicle.
  • Ensures that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving.
  • Swings and secures trailer doors.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid CDL A License required.
  • Minimum 2 years of CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years (3+ years preferred).
  • Must meet DOT qualification requirements (FMCSR 391.41).
  • No positive drug or alcohol test results in the past five (5) yrs.
  • No accident involving bodily injury within the last three (3) yrs.
  • Experience in local P&D operations, multi-stop routing, and urban driving environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of load securement and freight handling.
  • Able to navigate efficiently using GPS and route planning tools.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and professionalism in customer-facing environments.
  • Experience handling high-value or sensitive freight preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • TWIC card (or ability to obtain within 90 days, if required).
  • Hazmat endorsement required.

Physical Demands

  • Sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate steering wheel, controls, GPS, and electronic logging devices.
  • Frequently enter and exit the cab (4–6 feet) multiple times per shift.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull freight ranging from 1–125 pounds (team lift or equipment-assisted when required).
  • Lift up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Frequently reach at or above shoulder height, at waist level, and below waist level.
  • Bend, twist, squat, kneel, and crouch during loading/unloading and inspections.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor and trailer.
  • Hook/unhook trailers, operate landing gear, fifth wheel release, and related equipment.
  • Walk and stand for portions of the shift on surfaces such as concrete, metal, or dock plates, which may be uneven, wet, or slippery.
  • Operate foot pedals and manual transmission (if applicable).

Work Environment

  • Combination of environments including inside a truck cab and outdoors at customer locations, terminals, and on public roadways.
  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind during loading and unloading activities.
  • Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, noise, and vibration associated with operating commercial vehicles.
  • Busy warehouse yards, loading docks, and urban delivery environments, which may include tight spaces, traffic congestion, and time-sensitive delivery schedules.
  • Noise levels can range from moderate inside the cab to loud at customer sites and industrial locations.

Compensation

  • The expected mileage rate is $1.10 per mile. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
