Job Description
The Rear-load Driver supports key operations within the waste management and recycling industry. This role contributes to the organization's success through strong execution, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a commitment to safety, service quality, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong vehicle control, including backing, turning, and maneuvering in tight or congested environments
- Comply with all applicable DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures
- Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Utilize safe backing procedures, including coordination with helpers
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues immediately
- Complete routes safely, on time, and in accordance with service and productivity expectations
- Maintain route pace in high-volume environments
- Follow route sheets and dispatcher instructions
- Manual Collection & Team Coordination
- Work closely with helpers to collect and load waste into the truck
- Absorb waste into the truck when needed
- Ensure safe coordination with helpers, especially during backing operations
- Customer Service & Site Standards
- Provide courteous service to residential customers
- Ensure streets and collection areas are left clean and free of debris
- Report service issues or missed pickups
- Represent the company professionally at all times while in the field
- Equipment Operation & Waste Handling
- Operate packer controls and loading mechanisms safely
- Identify and report unacceptable or hazardous waste
- Documentation & Communication
- Complete DVIRs, route sheets, and required documentation
- Maintain communication with dispatch throughout the shift
- Safety & Compliance Expectations
- Drivers are responsible for safe execution of their duties
- The Safety Department provides training, standards, and oversight
- Drivers must follow all safety procedures and actively participate in training
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class A or B CDL with air brake endorsement
- Valid DOT medical certification
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year CDL experience
- Experience in residential or manual collection environments
Physical Requirements
- Continuous climbing, walking, and manual labor
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, early morning start
- Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays
