Driver - Participant Care

About the Role

InnovAge Driver – Participant Care provides transportation for frail and elderly participants from their home to our Day Centers and appointments during the day, as well as for field trips as part of the activities program. Drivers deliver in-home meals and provide delivery and pick-up of supplies and medications for participants, in addition to performing pre/post trip inspections. Physical attendance at an InnovAge facility and/or an InnovAge participant home is essential to performing the job duties.

Responsibilities

• Drives InnovAge vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing defensive driving skills and following InnovAge policies, procedures, and assigned routes.
• Loads and unloads participants in and out of InnovAge vehicles and assists participants into and out of their homes in adherence with InnovAge policies and procedures.
• Transports participants to all pre-arranged appointments as directed by the dispatcher.
• Delivers in-home meals, supplies, and medications to participants, ensuring correct delivery.
• Assists participants into their homes and helps with simple tasks when necessary, such as helping with outerwear or moving obstructing items.
• Keeps Dispatch updated on all events of assigned routes.
• Maintains safety and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and coordinates scheduling of van maintenance with the Manager of Transportation.
• Assists other Drivers with loading and unloading participants arriving and exiting the center.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to formulate and monitor Plans of Care for InnovAge PACE program participants.
• Performs additional work functions and duties as assigned.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with some Saturday and holiday operations requiring work on a rotating schedule basis.

Requirements

• Previous DOT and Defensive Driving experience.
• One year of experience working with the frail or elderly.
• High school diploma or GED (or one year of relevant experience may substitute).
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

Licensure Requirements by State:

• California (San Bernardino and Sacramento Centers): Valid state-issued Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement (Class A also accepted), good driving record, and at least 21 years of age.
• California (Los Angeles), Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Virginia: Valid state-issued Driver’s License, good driving record, and at least 21 years of age.

Drivers must maintain a valid state-issued medical examiner’s certificate when required by applicable state law.

Preferred: Knowledge of how to use and maintain positioning equipment, experience transporting the elderly, and six months of experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.

Pay

Posted pay range: $23.50 per hour. Salaries are determined by qualifications, experience, and location.
