About the role
The Driver/Material Handler is a vital member of the Metal Shop team, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials, components, and finished goods both within Mission Critical Group's manufacturing facility and between external company locations and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Internal Material Handling:
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, reach trucks) to move, stack, load, and unload materials, components, and finished goods within the manufacturing plant and warehouse.
- Load and unload trucks and containers efficiently and safely.
- Transport materials to and from production lines, storage areas, and shipping/receiving docks.
- Ensure accurate placement and organization of products in storage locations.
- Perform routine inventory counts and update records as necessary.
- External Transportation
- Operate company vehicles, primarily (but not limited to) box trucks, to transport materials between company facilities and vendors.
- Carry out pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, documenting and reporting any mechanical or safety issues.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, DOT regulations and company safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, including time logs, mileage reports, and bills of lading.
- Aid with loading and unloading goods at delivery points, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Communicate effectively with logistics support, and internal teams regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
- Safety & Maintenance
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA requirements at all times.
- Ensure loads are secured properly before transportation.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment, including vehicles and material handling equipment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Perform minor routine maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure).
- General Duties
- Collaborate with production, warehouse, and shipping teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Complete and maintain accurate logs and records of material movements and deliveries.
- Assist with general warehouse duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Class B required.
- Valid Forklift Operator Certification (OSHA compliant) desirable
- 3+ years of experience operating box trucks, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks requiring bending, stooping, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance is a plus.
- Familiarity with inventory tracking systems is a plus.
