What You'll Do
- Plan, assign, and execute transportation orders to maximize fleet capacity, equipment utilization, and customer satisfaction
- Cook up load planning, routing, and equipment availability with agents and van operators
- Keep an eye on fleet utilization, line haul opportunities, and operational performance to boost revenue and service levels
- Give the scoop on order assignments, schedule changes, and special transportation requirements to agents
- Track key fleet performance metrics, like utilization, on-time pickup and delivery, and freight mix, and look for ways to improve
- Make sure independent contractors get paid accurately and on time, including hauling pay, stop pay, and reimbursements
- Handle driver statements and work with Payroll to resolve payment questions or discrepancies
- Be the go-to guy for the contract driver fleet, providing operational support and coordinating with internal departments
- Help with recruiting, onboarding, orientation, and qualification of independent contractors and their equipment
- Tackle operational issues involving drivers, equipment, and shipments, working with dispatchers, agents, customers, and internal teams
- Make sure everything complies with UniGroup policies and applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Jump in on departmental initiatives and take on additional responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet operations, dispatch, or a related field
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with independent contractors or owner-operators
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and transportation industry regulations
- Experience with transportation management, dispatch, or fleet management systems
- Experience analyzing operational performance metrics and improving fleet utilization
