About the role
The Local Driver is responsible for the safe operation of company trucks for timely delivery of products to customer and company locations. The driver will safely load, unload, and transfer products using various equipment and forklifts within the branch location, trucks/trailers, and sites. They will assist branch/warehouse operations as needed with warehouse and front counter duties, and must possess high-quality customer service skills.
Responsibilities
- Load, unload, and deliver product to customer sites within designated time frames safely using the most efficient routes.
- Maintain required logs and reports to comply with DOT and Company policies relating to safety standards and operation of delivery vehicles and forklifts.
- Safely load and properly block, brace, and secure cargo.
- Ensure continuous compliance with driving/traffic and transportation laws and regulations.
- Operate forklift safely and efficiently to transfer, load, and unload product, ensuring accurate product and quantity.
- Perform pre-check and post-check operations of company vehicles and forklifts per required procedures.
- Perform warehouse duties and ensure accurate product and quantity is loaded/transferred for customers.
- Follow good housekeeping and safety practices.
- Act as warehouse and/or front counter backup as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
- Working knowledge of commercial truck mechanics and current DOT regulations.
- Minimum of 1 year of verifiable commercial driving experience within the past 3 years.
- Placement contingent upon successful completion of DOT road test, pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, and background check.
- DMV record must not reflect an excess of 2 moving violations and/or preventable accidents within the past 3 years.
- Excellent driving record.
- Ability to proficiently use MS Office (Outlook & Excel), Mincron, and a scanner.
- Ability to multi-task and assist in warehouse, front counter, or branch as needed.
- Timeliness and conscientiousness regarding work hours.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- 3+ years of driving a commercial vehicle.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Annual DOT screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs or lift lighter items repetitively, or perform 2-person lifts for heavier items.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Reports to: Branch Manager, Warehouse Manager/Coordinator, or HUB Manager.
