About the role

The Local Truck Driver position based out of Denton, TX, will handle local deliveries within a specific area with care, professionalism, and precision.

Responsibilities

  • Drives semi-tractor/trailers for up to 11 hours after 10 hours off-duty on runs of up to one week or more.
  • Performs pick-up and delivery (P&D) locally.
  • Backs trailers to customer dock.
  • Maintains compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe and professional driving behavior.
  • Communicates with customer representatives in a pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner.
  • Coordinates with dispatchers.
  • Complies with all DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion testing).
  • Secures cargo and properly arranges and balances it within the vehicle.
  • Ensures that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving.
  • Applies tire chains in inclement weather when required.
  • Swings and secures trailer doors.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Class A CDL Required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of verified experience within the past 4 years (3+ years preferred).
  • Minimum 1-year Medical Certificate – meets ICC physical qualifications under Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 391.41.
  • No positive drug or alcohol test result in the past five years.
  • No accident involving bodily injury within the last three years.
  • No DUI/DWI, Reckless Driving, or Speeding Tickets 12mph or higher in the past five years.

Physical Demands

  • Sits for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Uses hands and fingers to operate a steering wheel, controls, GPS devices, and other on-board equipment.
  • Reaches with hands and arms, climbs in and out of the cab and trailer, and occasionally stoops, kneels, bends, or crouches during inspections, coupling/uncoupling, or loading/unloading activities.
  • Communicates effectively using verbal and hearing skills, often via CB radio or mobile devices.
  • Vision requirements include the ability to see at a distance for safe driving, as well as close vision for reading documents, using electronic logs, and performing inspections.
  • Frequently carries, pushes, or pulls freight weighing 1-125 pounds; lifts up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently reaches for freight at waist level and occasionally above shoulder height or below waist level.
  • Shifts manual transmission and operates foot pedals (not applicable on all trucks).
  • Frequently squats or crouches to handle and position freight.
  • Climbs in and out of over-the-road tractor (4 to 6 feet high) 8 to 10 times daily with assistance of steps and handholds; occasionally bends, twists, climbs, squats, crouches, and balances.
  • Conducts pre-trip inspections for tractor and trailer.
  • Able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower/raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release lever, lock/release pintle-hooks, fuel vehicles, and check engine oil/coolant levels.
  • Spends at least 5% of the day standing and 5% walking on surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete (may be slippery or wet).
  • Reaches above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level for maneuvering and directing controls to operate the truck.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading.
  • Time spent both inside the truck cab (extended periods of sitting, engine noise, and vibration) and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways.
  • Noise levels vary from quiet inside the cab to moderate or loud at delivery or pick-up locations.

Pay

The starting hourly pay is $24.00. After 90 days of employment, employees are eligible for a $2.00 per hour increase, bringing the hourly rate to $26.00 to achieve annual gross earnings of $80,000–$91,000.
