About the role
The Department of Public Safety, Driver Licensing Program, is seeking a professional, adaptable, customer service-oriented individual to supervise the largest exam station in the state. This position oversees at least 10 employees, including interviewing and selecting staff, providing training, addressing disciplinary issues, and completing performance evaluations. The role involves substantial public contact, addressing customer complaints, and conducting driver re-evaluation examinations. Occasional overnight travel within the state and travel to out-of-state conferences is required.
Responsibilities
- Direct the work of at least 10 employees
- Interview and select staff
- Provide training and address disciplinary issues
- Complete performance evaluations
- Address customer complaints and conduct driver re-evaluation examinations
- Prepare and deliver presentations/training in public forums and for employees
- Supervise employees in central and remote locations
- Organize multiple activities and meet deadlines
- Operate driver license processing equipment
- Remain calm during stressful situations and react to emergencies quickly
Requirements
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
- Good planning and organization skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Ability to lift and carry 60 to 70 pounds of equipment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
- Operate a motor vehicle
Knowledge and Skills
- U.S. and international identification and licensing documents
- Federal and state commercial and non-commercial motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations
- Department driver licensing policies and procedures
- Investigation techniques and common medical terminology
- Computer operations
- Effective methods of supervision
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
- Employ effective positive persuasion techniques to obtain desired outcomes
- Communicate information clearly and concisely
