Driver Helper - Building Material

About the role

At Builders FirstSource you’ll assist drivers to safely deliver building materials to customers and job sites, load and unload product, secure loads, and provide friendly service. This hands-on, active role offers steady full-time hours, no regular weekends, and $20.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Assist with loading and securing product onto or inside delivery vehicles using motorized or non-motorized material handling equipment.
• Deliver and off-load product at customer facilities; carry materials (e.g., drywall, windows, doors) to designated areas with driver assistance.
• Drive company van or pickup truck under 10,000 GVW to deliver customer orders and obtain signed proof of delivery.
• Drive pilot vehicle for oversize loads while complying with safety regulations.
• Inspect and maintain delivery vehicles to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Plan and pace work to meet daily, weekly, project, or team productivity goals.
• Observe all safety procedures and attend periodic safety meetings; may recommend safety improvements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and one year of experience performing similar tasks, or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.

• Ability to read and understand maps, routes, and road signs.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to read and understand machine and equipment diagrams and system schematics.
• Knowledgeable of escort service regulations.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.

Work Environment / Physical Activity

• Regularly rides in a truck delivering product; works in all weather conditions.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds frequently; may be required to lift and carry up to 200 pounds with assistance.
• May perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.
• Must be able to climb into cab, twist torso for 360-degree visibility, and operate controls.
