Driver Guide
Reports to: Operations Director • Seasonal (April to September 2026) • $20/hour with bonus potential • Anchorage
About the role
The Non-CDL Driver & Guide plays a key role in delivering a safe and memorable guest experience on daily Portage Lake tours. This position is responsible for safely transporting guests from downtown Anchorage on two separate tours: the morning Portage Glacier Express and an afternoon Portage Glacier & Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) tour. The driver will provide engaging interpretation along the Seward Highway, maintain a clean and well-kept vehicle, and follow all safety protocols. The ideal candidate is personable, attentive to guest needs, and committed to delivering exceptional service while practicing safe and responsible driving.
Responsibilities
- Safely guide guests from downtown Anchorage, along the Seward Highway, to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and on to Portage Lake.
- Care for, clean and maintain vehicle and facilities in a neat, properly functioning, organized and presentable manner.
- Provide guests with information about the scenery, wildlife, history, culture and geography of South Central Alaska.
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests.
- Conduct van pre/post trip inspections.
- Participate in all required trainings.
- Maintain or acquire a current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have previous guide experience.
- Previous driving and outdoor experience is preferred.
- Must have a driver's license with no restrictions and be comfortable driving on highways.
- Awareness of motor vehicles will be beneficial.
- Must be in good physical condition, and be able to perform all required tasks, from guiding to cleaning the equipment.
- Adequate knowledge or willingness to learn about South Central Alaska history, wildlife, and scientific facts.
- Must have good customer service skills.
- Must have good verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to learn, retain and present excursion information to guests in an accurate manner.
