About the role

Contra Costa County’s Library Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill one part-time (32 hours per week) vacancy for the Driver Clerk classification. The Contra Costa County Library is a dynamic system of over 400 dedicated employees, including multilingual staff who make up 10% of the workforce. Together, they serve 26 diverse communities across the county. Each year, the Library welcomes more than 2.4 million visitors and circulates approximately 4.8 million items.

Driver Clerks work in the shipping unit moving library materials between 26 community libraries, Juvenile Hall, Administration, and other locations throughout Contra Costa County. They are responsible for loading and unloading vehicles and assisting with the delivery of equipment, such as tables, canopies, and other Library materials.

Responsibilities

• Safely driving a vehicle and following all relevant driving laws
• Driving for scheduled hours along a preset route with multiple stops
• Sorting, lifting, and moving bins of up to 50 pounds each
• Sorting materials into trucks prior to delivery
• Following ergonomic protocols to ensure proper lifting, lowering, and carrying

Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. proficiency, or high school equivalency certificate
• Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license (out-of-state licenses accepted during the application process)
• Six months experience as a Bindery Worker or Storeroom Clerk in Contra Costa County, or one year of full-time (or equivalent) experience driving a vehicle for a professional service or agency or sorting, delivering, and picking up transmittal mail
• Possession of a valid State of California Class B Driver’s license when assigned to operate the Bookmobile

Pay

$54,584.40 - $66,347.70 annually

Part-time, 32 hours per week
