Driver - Class A OTR

About the role

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In addition to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.

The purpose of the Class A Driver is to safely and efficiently operate a commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas to transport freight. This over-the-road position may deliver to a wide variety of locations in the U.S. and may require loading and unloading food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate a commercial motor vehicle (Class A) for over-the-road freight transport.
• Deliver to various locations across the U.S., including urban, suburban, and rural areas.
• Load and unload food products to charitable feeding partners and programs as required.
• Adhere to DOT, state, and federal trucking regulations.
• Maintain consistent routes week to week.

Requirements

• Class A CDL with a current and valid DOT medical certificate.
• Good driving record and must be insurable by the company’s vehicle insurance provider.
• 1+ years of tractor/trailer route delivery experience.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with handheld route phones and/or electronic logging devices is desirable.
• Knowledge of DOT, state, and federal trucking regulations.
• Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience.

Pay

• Mileage Rate: $0.70 per mile.
• Home Weekly Average Miles: 2,200–2,500 weekly.
• Detention Pay: $80 per full day (following IRS-approved daily allowance), prorated for partial travel days based on time away from home. Drivers must be away from their tax home overnight to qualify.
• Per Diem: First 2 hours free (standard industry allowance); after that, $30 per hour with a daily maximum payout of $180.
• Monthly attendance bonus.
• Earn up to 10% incentive pay.
• Apparel allowance.

Schedule

• Consistent routes week to week.
• Over-the-road position requiring overnight travel.
