Driver - Class A (CT)

Responsibilities

  • Counts and verifies load.
  • Unloads truck and loads empty racks, trays and/or baskets.
  • Breaks down stacks of bakery products as required.
  • Ensures load is secure.
  • Prepares record of safety inspections, accurate log book postings, requests for repairs needed, and any other company, federal and state mandated recordkeeping requirements as instructed.
  • Completes daily trip report and/or logbook, and turns in each day.
  • Reports any product overage or shortage to supervision.
  • Marks up damaged equipment for repair or disposal.
  • Consolidates trays of product on racks at each stop and removes empty racks from store.
  • Keeps interior of truck/trailer clean and neat for carrying food products.
  • Obtains/maintains a state of residence/Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for tractor/trailer and passes annual DOT physical and driving record checks.
  • Drives courteously and safely to display company logo in a positive manner.
  • Records mileage, gas and oil use statistics using appropriate forms or devices provided.
  • Wears company-provided uniforms and maintains clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Attends all bi-annual company safety meetings.
  • Attends all safety training and bi-annual company meetings as required.
  • Trains/retrains as required by company training guidelines (i.e. annual GMPT).
  • Notifies supervision of any equipment problems or safety hazards.
  • Affords assistance to other employees when possible, working as a team member.
  • Performs all other related assignments and training of other employees as required by Supervision.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in tractor trailer driving is required.
  • Adaptability to night driving in varying road weather conditions is required.
  • Some analytical ability required in order to gather and interpret data in situations in which the problems are somewhat complex.
  • Independent Judgment and Consequence Of Errors Driving and making deliveries are done with minimal supervision. Ability to work independently without close supervision is required. Independent judgment is required in driving. Some direct guidance is received from supervision and/or from established procedures or instructions. The consequence of errors is significant in cost of time, money, customer service, product appearance and customer/consumer relations. Vehicle accidents pose a constant danger.
