Driver - CDL (A)
About the role
A Driver – CDL (A) is responsible for safely operating a heavy commercial truck, such as a tractor trailer, straight truck with a pup trailer, or other vehicle requiring a Class A CDL. The role involves prompt and courteous delivery and removal of large containers while ensuring compliance with company, state, and federal regulations. Drivers perform daily vehicle inspections, complete condition reports, and maintain operational readiness to minimize downtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order; report safety issues on standard reports.
- Safely operate a heavy truck along designated routes, following route sheets, maps, and customer assignments from dispatchers or supervisors.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with company safety policies to lift, load refuse, operate compactors, and dispose of collected material at designated facilities.
- Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others daily to ensure timely and professional service.
- Perform minor repairs to containers on-site or in the container yard; identify and tag unsatisfactory waste containers per departmental procedures.
- Monitor waste for unacceptable materials and clean accidental spills while adhering to safety standards.
- Maintain vehicle condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean waste from containers and edges after each disposal trip.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, vehicle condition reports (VCRs), and other documentation as needed.
- Adhere to productivity standards to ensure timely and efficient customer service.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures; actively participate in the company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement.
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; professional, courteous, and cooperative demeanor.
- Strong time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Ability to follow through on tasks and adhere to work schedules while addressing challenges as they arise.
- Commitment to company policies and safety standards; avoids unnecessary risks.
- Pride in work and dedication to achieving goals.
- Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to perform minor container repairs.
