Driver

The employer for this position is an independent operating subsidiary of The Pennant Group, Inc., providing healthcare services through senior living communities.

About the Role

Responsible for the safe transportation of residents to and from physician or other appointments. Plans drop-off and pick-up times to ensure timely service and maintains resident transport vehicles in a safe, clean condition.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct at all times.
• Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies.
• Drive residents to and from appointments using the designated community vehicle(s).
• Assist residents with entering and exiting the vehicle and destination when necessary.
• Ensure resident paperwork is dropped off at each physician’s office and returned to the nurse’s office upon the resident’s return.
• Maintain sufficient fuel in each vehicle to cover current and following shifts of appointments.
• Maintain cleanliness of all transport vehicles by vacuuming, cleaning windows, and keeping the interior tidy.
• Inspect transport vehicle(s) daily for safety issues, including tire pressure, emergency lights, turn signals, oil levels, and car body condition.
• Practice good safety awareness and address safety concerns proactively.
• Encourage resident independence while providing assistance as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

• Works throughout the community and general locale.
• Subject to frequent interruptions and interactions with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies.
• May be subject to call-back during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster).
• Exposed to emotionally upset or hostile residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• Subject to potential injuries from falls, equipment, odors, and air contaminants (e.g., dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke).
• Exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions, including TB, COVID-19, AIDS, and Hepatitis viruses.
• May handle and be exposed to hazardous chemicals.

Physical Demands

• Must move frequently throughout the workday.
• Must cope with mental and emotional stress.
• Requires hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and normal range vision (or use of prosthetics).
• Must function independently, demonstrate personal integrity, and work effectively with others.
• Must be in good general health and emotionally stable.
• Must relate and work with disabled, ill, elderly, or emotionally upset individuals.
• Must safely operate community transport vehicle(s).
• Must lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
• Requires sitting, reaching, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and bending.
• Must assist with the evacuation of residents.

Requirements

• Read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Obtain criminal history clearance.
• Comply with all training requirements.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
• Ability to make independent decisions in warranted circumstances.
• Remain calm and level-headed in emergencies.
• Professional appearance and ability to work harmoniously with others.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Maintain patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record with no major violations over the previous five years.
• Familiarity with the general locale and roads in the service area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations over the previous 5 years.
• CPR certification is desirable.

Pay

$18–$19 per hour, depending on experience.
