Driver
About the role
The Salvation Army is seeking a Truck Driver to operate local routes. Responsibilities include driving safely, organizing pick-up tickets, loading donations efficiently, conducting daily vehicle inspections, and maintaining a positive attitude towards diverse interactions.
Responsibilities
- Drive within state/federal statutes and guidelines
- Read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public
- Organize pick-up tickets and schedule routes efficiently
- Load donations in an organized manner to maximize pickups per load and minimize damage
- Clean and secure the vehicle; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle's condition
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
- One year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van
- Valid State Driver’s License
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (desired but not required)
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of assigned geographical area
- Ability to organize pick-up tickets and schedule routes
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to read and follow maps and directions
- Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck
- Ability to follow DOT regulations and safety standards
- Moderate physical effort required (25-50%)
- Exposure to outdoor conditions with physical discomforts due to weather and environment
