Employment Type:Full timeShift:12 Hour Day ShiftDescription:Wheelchair Drive for Emergency Services Department Full-Time (72 Hours Biweekly) 12 Hour Day Shift POSITION PURPOSE Operate the ambulance in a safe and professional manner to transport patients of all ages in both emergency and non-emergency situations, ensuring smooth, timely, and secure transit. Respond promptly to ambulance calls, adhering to established system protocols and National Incident Management System (NIMS) standards for scene management to maintain safety and efficiency. Collaborate with ambulance colleagues to provide patient care support, including assisting with lifting, transferring, and monitoring patients as needed. Responsible for restocking supplies, cleaning, and maintaining the ambulance to ensure readiness for subsequent calls. May administer basic first aid and assist in the safe restraint of combative or violent patients when necessary, following approved procedures. When available, assists in the Emergency Department with delegated tasks such as lifting, transferring, and monitoring patients, as well as performing decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of equipment. Patient Care Assist with lifting, transferring, and basic first aid, as needed. May assist in the safe restraint of combative or violent patients, when necessary Transport & Operations Operate ambulance safely; transport sick or injured persons while avoiding motions detrimental to patients. Cover on-call hours and staff special events as directed to meet departmental needs. Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Perform daily/weekly vehicle and rig checks; maintain, restock and clean unit after each run. Manage EMS inventory; maintain pagers, radios and other equipment; report discrepancies and maintenance needs. Training & Education Complete all required training and maintain competency in required skills, including departmental, site specific, and organization-wide programs. Assist in orientation of new Ambulance Drivers; provide education to staff and the public as requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the Ambulance Driver position, including all legal/regulatory requirements governing emergency medical services. This knowledge should encompass state and local protocols, documentation standards, infection control practices, and the ability to apply these principles effectively. Additionally, the Ambulance Driver should demonstrate proficiency in recognizing limitations of the role and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, meeting all organizational motor vehicle safety standards. National Incident Management System (NIMS) - 100 (preferred). Basic Life Support (BLS) provider (American Heart Association or equivalent) required. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within 6 months of hire. Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent within 1 year of hire. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
