About the Role
Under the supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, you will be responsible for the direct transportation of physically limited passengers to and from their destinations. This position requires constant interaction with caregivers and community agencies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years old
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with the frail elderly population
- Valid NC Driver’s License with a good driving record (no major moving violations)
- Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position, including standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, squatting, and walking for intermittent periods
Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate with participants, families, staff, and other agencies and departments
- Drive a variety of vehicles in the organization’s transportation fleet, including specially equipped vans for physically limited persons
- Operate wheelchair lifts and tie-down equipment, ensuring participants are delivered to appointments in a timely manner
- Follow established schedules, adjust routes for unanticipated changes (with approval from the Transportation Coordinator), and determine the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes
- Assist participants on and off vans using proper safety techniques in a courteous manner
- Demonstrate proper use, care, and storage of durable medical equipment
- Provide door-to-door service, ensuring participants exit and enter their residences safely
- Respond to emergencies appropriately
- Inspect and maintain the van in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; report maintenance needs
- Complete daily maintenance check-off sheets and submit them to the Transportation Coordinator
- Maintain proper documentation of fuel receipts as instructed
- Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team as requested
- Attend staff meetings and take part in participant care planning as requested
- Communicate any changes in participant condition to appropriate team members
- Complete required documentation
- Maintain a safe driving record and ensure your North Carolina driver’s license is verified annually
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
- Part-time shifts: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
