Responsibilities

  • Transports residents in a safe manner while observing all safe driving standards.
  • Communicates with residents, physician offices, and the community at large in a professional manner at all times.
  • Informs residents, community team members and medical providers of times of pick-up and drop-off of residents to activities and appointments.
  • Fulfills schedule as written with minimal change and cancellation.
  • Uses appropriate procedures to assist residents to minimize the risk of injury or accident.
  • Understands the medical needs of the resident and how best to approach the resident to and from the vehicle and in loading and unloading the resident.
  • Schedules and conducts resident outings including site-seeing trips, destination locations, and medical trips.
  • Carries belongings, opens doors, and cautions residents on steps and other objects in their path.
  • Opens/closes and loads/unloads walkers and wheelchairs.
  • Aids residents in and out of the vehicle utilizing the wheelchair lift and/or stairs, if needed.
  • Ensures residents are safely seated with seat belts secured.
  • Aids residents in wheelchairs during activities outside the community.
  • Accounts for the presence of all residents when leaving or returning to the community.
  • Calls resident rooms for appointment/activity reminders, as needed.
  • Fills the community motor vehicle with gasoline at pre-approved service stations.
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to all accidents and emergencies, based on established protocol.
  • Interacts with residents in a friendly manner, providing meaningful attention and communicating concerns of resident’s health to management as appropriate.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and safety of all vehicles.
  • Checks the vehicles prior to transporting residents in order to ensure that all safety and emergency equipment is available during transports.
  • Keeps a maintenance log on the vehicles and ensures that all preventative maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
  • Works in a safe manner and ensures that unsafe actions are brought to the attention of the Executive Director.
  • Complies with Safety Committee Standards.
  • Notifies the Executive Director of workplace injuries and follows all procedures for treatment, investigation, and return to work.
  • Fosters teamwork with co-workers, shows initiative in overcoming obstacles, takes actions which assist others beyond job responsibilities, and has a positive impact on co-workers, residents, and visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Must have a valid CDL with passenger endorsement. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation or related field. CPR certification is preferred but not required.
