Driver

Description

The Driver, reporting directly to the Executive Director, is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of residents to and from community activities, appointments, and other destinations. This position plays an important role in enhancing residents' independence and quality of life by assisting with mobility needs, ensuring the securement of wheelchairs and other equipment, and providing courteous, reliable service.

• Drive vehicle from community area to destination according to assigned schedule.
• Absorb passengers into and out of vehicle.
• Secure passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
• Operate radio or similar device to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
• Clean and service vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and readiness of community vehicles.
• Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) and safety regulations.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, and community leadership to ensure transportation services are delivered with dignity, respect, and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• A minimum of one (1) year of public transportation experience is preferred, with prior experience in a senior living community strongly desired.
• CPR or BLS certification preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age to operate any Cedarhurst vehicle.
• Must be over the age of 23 to operate a Cedarhurst 15 passenger van.
• Must hold and maintain an active, valid driver's license in good standing (clean driving record), with the ability to meet community and state driving requirements.
• Demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable.

Working Conditions

• May need to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas of the community.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as climb or balance.
• Required to communicate effectively and identify/interpret written information.
• May need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
• Individuals in this position are required to follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, to ensure the health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
