About the role
Atlantic Plywood, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Truck Driver Associate to join our growing logistics operations. Responsibilities
Safe & Professional Transportation
Operate company-owned and leased trucks (Class B) to deliver and pick up building materials
Plan and execute efficient delivery routes to ensure timely service
Drive safely in varying weather and road conditions throughout our service territory
Maintain strict compliance with all DOT hours of service regulations
Represent Parksite with professionalism and courtesy during every customer interaction
Communicate effectively with customers, warehouse staff, and dispatchLoad Securement & Cargo Management
Secure Loads Using Proper Tie-down Techniques Including Winch and ratchet strap systems
Chains and binders
Edge protection and load blocking
Operate side-curtain wall systems for cargo protection
Ensure proper weight distribution and balance for safe transport
Protect materials from weather and road debris during transit
Verify load security before departure and during trip inspections
Handle specialized building materials, including lumber, plywood, panels, and engineered productsPhysical Material Handling
Loading & Unloading
Assist with hand loading and unloading of building materials (50+ lbs regularly; up to 90 lbs occasionally)
Operate forklifts when required to assist with warehouse operations. Forklift operation is permitted only after completion of company-provided training and OSHA-required certification.
Use proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment
Ensure materials are delivered without damage
Work collaboratively with warehouse teams during loading operations
Coordinate with receiving personnel at customer locationsEquipment Care & Compliance
Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection
Conduct post-trip inspections and report findings
Complete required DOT inspection reports and documentation
Check fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and safety equipment
Report on mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions immediately
Maintain the cleanliness of the cab and truck exterior
Ensure all required documentation is current (registration, insurance, permits)Regulatory Compliance Documentation & Record-Keeping
Maintain accurate driver logs in compliance with DOT regulations
Document proof of delivery and customer signatures
Record mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities
Submit required reports to dispatch and management
Maintain electronic logging device (ELD) recordsMaintaining Excellence
Safety & Professionalism
Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and gloves
Follow all safety rules and procedures as outlined in the company manual
Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions
Report safety hazards, incidents, or near-misses immediately
Always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
Provide exceptional customer service as the face of Atlantic Plywood
Work safely in various environments, including hot, cold, and inclement weather conditionsGeneral Responsibilities
Follow instructions from the Operations Manager and dispatch coordinators
Work collaboratively with warehouse and office teams to meet delivery schedules
Perform other duties assigned to support overall logistics operations
Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude
Act in accordance with policies set forth in the company procedures manual
Qualifications
Valid CDL Class B license (current and in good standing)
Minimum 3 years of professional commercial driving experience
Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations, as defined by company and DOT standards
Possession of a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT medical card), obtained independently by the applicant in accordance with FMCSA requirements. Ability to comply with all DOT and FMCSA regulations , including Hours of Service and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) requirements
Basic math skills: ability to calculate distances, fuel consumption, and delivery schedules
Basic English proficiency sufficient to read and understand safety rules, DOT regulations, bills of lading, route maps, and ELD instructions. Excellent time management and organizational abilities
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Professional communication skills with customers and team members
Reliable, punctual, and dependable attendance
Preferred Qualifications
Flatbed trucking experience with building materials
Forklift operation experience
Lumber or building product industry experience
Tarping and load protection experience
Knowledge of the Eastern United States delivery territory
Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs)
Previous experience in a distribution or logistics environment
Pre-Employment Requirements
Ability to pass DOT-regulated drug and alcohol screening, background check, and employment verification in accordance with applicable law
Authorization to work in the United States
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a day shift schedule (typically early morning starts). Flexibility to work overtime during peak periods as needed. Occasional overnight trips depending on delivery requirements.
