About the role

The Aggregate Truck Driver is responsible for transporting aggregates from rock quarries and gravel pits to various locations and customer job sites. This position primarily involves driving a Dump Truck and Pup Trailer but may occasionally require operating other types of commercial vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and MSHA.
  • Safely operate truck and trailer combinations (Pup and Truck).
  • Operate tarp mechanisms to cover and uncover the truck and trailer box before and/or after each load.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, including licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
  • Operate the truck safely and professionally on public highways, roads, yard areas, and job sites to deliver materials.
  • Drive in traffic and maneuver the truck, including safe backing, to load and unload aggregate.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections at the start and end of each workday, completing the Check-off Sheet to verify all systems are functioning properly. Inspections include checking under the hood, trailer, tires, lights, and other vehicle parts.
  • Clean the truck and trailer by spraying surfaces with truck wash compound according to company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 to 2 years of related experience and/or training preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Experience in the building materials/construction industry preferred.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL (commercial driver's license).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Medical Card as per DOT requirements.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required; must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Skills

  • Ability to use a tablet for timekeeping, training, and other tasks.
  • Demonstrated hands-on, collaborative approach; ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies, instructions, plant site maps, city street maps, and GPS-based equipment information.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
  • Ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders or stairs, and/or lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly communicate with others via text, telecommunication, and in person.
  • Regularly make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp or manipulate switches and controls.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
