Driller/Exploration Team Member V
About the Role
Exploration Team Members (ETMs) perform subsurface exploration using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. Drill methods include auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring. In-situ testing techniques include cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter testing, and rock dilatometer testing. Work may also involve installing instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers. ETMs work as part of a multi-person team on projects and perform daily tasks including surveying and locating drilling points, conducting site reconnaissance, loading/unloading tooling and materials, classifying soil and rock samples, performing routine maintenance, and preparing internal and external paperwork.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate mastery of problem-solving and implement solutions for complex to very complex problems independently or with minor guidance.
- Operate a geotechnical drill rig to advance boreholes to required depths.
- Lead and train a 2- or 3-person drill crew in all drilling operation tasks.
- Be proficient in all drilling methods common to the region.
- Install instrumentation and monitoring wells.
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Conduct surveying, site reconnaissance, and utility clearance tasks.
- Drive drilling equipment to and from project locations.
- Inspect and complete routine maintenance of equipment.
- Lead project preparation and pre-task planning.
- Train junior staff in drilling methods.
- Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning and report safety issues.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of experience.
- Proficient in geotechnical and/or environmental drilling methods.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history (may be required).
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within the first 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- State-specific driller/well installation licensure where applicable.
